Cytological diagnosis of giant-cell osteogenic tumors and Ewing’s sarcoma
Abstract
Cytological examination of bone tumors is an effective diagnostic method for routine clinical practice, since it is rapid and relatively simple. It can also be used to evaluate treatment efficacy. However, the diversity of morphological forms and variants of bone tumors creates certain difficulties. Qualitative cytological diagnostics requires not only good knowledge of bone tumors, but also extensive experience in bone pathology. It is important to consider patient's age, tumor location, and findings of clinical and radiological methods. This makes cytological diagnostics of giant-cell and osteogenic tumors very effective. The present article describes cytological characteristics and differential diagnosis of giant-cell osteogenic tumors, as well as cytological diagnostics of Ewing's sarcoma.

Microsatellite instability: research methods, advantages, and disadvantages
Abstract
Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a unique molecular alteration and hypermutable phenotype resulting from a defect in the DNA mismatch repair system. This phenomenon is due to the presence of repetitive DNA sequences of variable size that are not present in the corresponding germline DNA. MSI has recently been shown to be present in most types of cancer at varying frequencies (<1 to 30 %), with the most common occurrence in colorectal cancer (15-20 %). MSI is positively correlated with survival outcome and predicts response to checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy. That is why it is so important to correctly determine the methodology for determining MSI. In this review, we describe the various methods developed to date for MSI detection in cancer, how they have evolved and improved over the years, and their advantages and disadvantages.
